was still living, but thought his wound to be fatal. The City of Desmoines was draped in mourning, all day yesterday after the news came in, and all business closed. Today there are to be funeral exercises at the Court House, at two O'clock, we are going up; You can only imagine the gloom that this sad event has cast over us, the whole of the Loyal people, I am sorry to say that there are those who rejoice over it, but forbearance is no longer a virtue with us, and woe is the man who boldly expresses his delight. We can not divine what is for us in the future, God help, and pity us! I must close for the present, but will give you all the particulars soon. With a heavy heart I am your loving wife till death. Mary.
